What sort of tools are these?
Minicraft 12 volt precision tools are used for small and light do it yourself work, hobby, electronics, renovation, in fact all those tasks that require accuracy. The tools are not for heavy DIY work such as drilling into concrete or cutting thick boards of wood. However, for the intricate job where big power tools can not reach - Minicraft is ideal!
How are the tools powered?
The tools are powered by 30 - 100 Watt Permanent Magnet Direct Current (PMDC) motors operating from a range of transformers with outputs at 0-18 volts. The transformers are connected directly to a standard 110v outlet.

What are the advantages of using transformers and 12 volt tools compared to larger 110 volt rotary tools?
The system of 12 volt designed tools has a number of advantages:
The tools can be designed slimmer and lighter - easier to use. Most of Minicraft?s tools includes the innovative pistol, palm and pencil grip which means that you can also work with the rotary tool like a fountain pen - applications at your fingertips - giving you full control! This balance and ease of use is harder to achieve with larger tools.
Since the tools operate on 12 volt they are safer to use and any electrical shock would be very small and harmless. The transformer rectifies the voltage and acts like an added safety barrier between you and the tool and the 110 volt outlet.
The transformer also includes an automatic safety cut-off devise that cuts the current if the tool is over loaded, until the temperature is back at designated levels. This protects the tool and the transformer against any damage and extends the life of the tools.
Which transformer do I best go with and what is the 12 volt tool system?
There are three transformers in the range. One single speed and two with variable speed. Once you have any one of the two variable speed transformers you will be able to use it with all the individual tools in the range - a system design! To start your Minicraft system or workshop have a look at the available 'Ready to Use' starter kits which includes a tool, transformer and accessories.

Does the 12 volt tools have the power to carry out basic tasks?
Yes they do. For example, if you use the MB150 rotary tool together with a cutting disc you can cut through a bolt or a nail. The advantage is that with the MB150 rotary tool you will be able to reach places you cannot reach with larger 110 volt tools.
Please note that these tools have ample power to carry out intended tasks. You do not need to force the tool. These are precision tools and you should let the tool do the work.
What are the benefits of having variable speed?
The variable speed enlarges the area of applications and usage of your Minicraft precision tool. When using the rotary tools, low speed is great for working with wool mops and steel wire brushes, and high speed is needed for engraving, cutting and precision drilling. You should always try on a piece of scrap material before you do some permanent work. This helps determine the best speed for the material and application used.
How does the three grip positions make my work easier?
This design is made to offer a flexibility of handling making almost any working position a joy!
- traditional pistol grip for drilling work
- palm grip for cutting, grinding and sanding work
- pen grip for engraving and pinpoint precision work

With the different accessories, how many different tools can I get out of my one rotary tool?
The rotary tools can, by using the large selection of accessories, become almost any tool you need. Drill bits for making holes, brass wheels for cleaning and polishing, cutting discs for cutting chains, wire and plastics, sanding drums for precision material removal, grinding wheels for sharpening and derusting, cutters for wood carving, diamond bits for engraving, and wool mops and paste for buffing and polishing. Minicraft offers an extensive range of accessories for a variety of applications.
Can I use the same accessories with all the rotary tools in the range?
Yes, all the accessories are interchangeable with the other rotary tools whether 12 volt or 110 volt, giving you full flexibility.
How can I best start my Minicraft system and build my own workshop?
